On our way home from the long weekend, we decided to stop for one final hike – a stroll along the Vanderbilt Mansion grounds. Just across the Hudson River, and a bit south, is Hyde Park – home to the Roosevelt Presidential Library, CIA and Vanderbilt Mansion. The grounds are beautiful, overlooking the Hudson River, with the Catskills in full view.
We started from the Mansion, along a paved road for the first mile, before turning right towards the river and then into the woods. Here we found ourselves on a lovely carriage road, weaving along the train tracks with occasional peeks towards the river. At one point, the fence was cut open, begging us to climb up and take a closer look.
Once out of the woods, we walked up to the Italian gardens. Unfortunately, at this time of year, the growth was a bit overwhelming. Across the great lawn, in front of the mansion and eventually back to our car. A perfect stroll with perfect weather.
